Hellebores provide a rare nectar source for bees and insects in late winter and early spring. They can provide pollen even in damp weather and each flower maintains a supply for up to three weeks.

A great range of hellebore varieties feature in spring gardens. They have large saucer-shaped flowers, which are long blooming, mostly in creamy shades of white, tinged with green and/or pink, set against spiny, evergreen foliage. The colours tend to change or deepen as they age.

Hellebores are easy to grow in moist soil and dappled shade, and need very little attention, though it is a good idea to trim off the foliage as the flowers begin to emerge to allow a better view of the flowers.

There are many varieties of Hellebore available but be aware that double flowers are unsuitable for pollinators.

Collage of Drypoint etchings & monoprints.

This original artwork is sold unmounted and unframed.
